A move between studios settles who is backing the film, not when it will arrive or how it will do.
Both TheWrap and Rue Morgue report that Lionsgate has acquired Portrait of God, a horror feature starring Chase Infiniti. Both are news reports relaying a Lionsgate statement; we have not seen the Lionsgate release itself. Rue Morgue says Clark describes the film as a new angle on religious horror, and that Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele are producing together for the first time in either of their careers.
Per TheWrap and Rue Morgue, Dylan Clark directs. TheWrap says the feature is adapted from his short of the same name, and Rue Morgue dates that short to 2022. Both outlets credit Joe Russo as co-writer and producer. Raimi produces through Ghost House Pictures and Peele through Monkeypaw Productions.
TheWrap says Universal had lined up the project in December, that it is unclear why Universal let go, and that Universal did not immediately respond to its request for comment. Rue Morgue says Universal “quietly let it go earlier this year” and reports no release date has been announced.
In the Lionsgate statement carried by both outlets, Adam Fogelson said the studio is “delighted to deepen our creative partnership with Dylan Clark.” Separately, TheWrap says Clark is lined up to direct a new Blair Witch film for Lionsgate; Rue Morgue says he is also helming a Blair Witch reboot.
